Update to Industry Standard NAAMM Manual
April 1, 2008To: All Industry Professionals in reference to NAAMM FP 1001-07
An update has been made to the industry standard NAAMM manual: Guide Specifications For Design Of Metal Flagpoles. For those of you that are not familiar with this NAAMM publication, it is an ANSI standard, and is the driving force of flagpole design. From the date of this publication, American Flagpole(AFP)will follow these updated guidelines issued by NAAMM FP 1001-07, which is slightly conservative than the previous version, NAAMM FP 1001-97. These changes will impact basic wind speeds, flag sizes, and wind regions.
Within the coming months, you will see an updated basic wind speed map, issued by NAAMM, updated wind speeds, and updated standard flag sizes in AFP published literature, and website to reflect the new changes that are set forth by the updated NAAMM FP1001-07 publication.
What does this mean to the industry professional? In most specifications (10350), under section 1.2.A, it states "Provide flagpoles capable of withstanding the effects of wind loads as determined according to NAAMM FP 1001". In this instance, AFP will use the most recent updated version of NAAMM FP 1001, unless it is specifically stated, (for example "NAAMM FP 1001-07, or NAAMM FP 1001-97). Any project quotes that have been issued on or before the date of this publication will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
If you have any questions about the new NAAMM manual, please feel free to contact your appropriate AFP sales representative or me for further explanation.
Thank you,
Shannon Barney
